History of Ellis Cousins Newsletter
The Ellis Family Newsletter was published from 1973 to 1977 by
Bonnie Ellis Pryor.
Two years later,
Bill and Carol Ellis picked up the gauntlet and published The
Ellis Cousins Newsletter. Their first two years of publications,
from 1979 to 1980, were primarily for Bill's own immediate Ellis family. In
1981 it was expanded to include all Ellis researchers throughout the US and
Canada. The Ellis
Cousins Newsletter continued publication through
2001. During their 22 years as editors of the newsletter, Bill and Carol acquired a
library of over 300 books and publications which they intend to donate to the Virginia
State Library in 2004 for the benefit of many researchers.
Now, Ellis Cousins Newsletter is published by Sharon Worthey, a descendant of Virginia Ellis
Carraway of Pattonsburg MO. My library is only 13 volumes so far - but it's growing!
Although all three
publications have been separate ventures, the editors of all three continue to work
together to make sure Ellises everywhere can find help locating their own Ellis ancestors.
Many of our subscribers don't yet have access to the internet and rely heavily on
our printed newsletter.

Benefits of being a member of Ellis Cousins Newsletter
· By associating with ECN, you will be in touch
with a wide network of hundreds of Ellis family researchers, many of whom cannot be
reached on the internet.
· Queries are FREE to all member/susbscribers of
ECN. There is no limit to the number of queries which may be submitted during the year and
no limit to the number of words in each query, though the editor does reserve the right to
shorten or abbreviate. The editor will write your query for you at your request.
· Family history stories, charts, family group
sheets, old photos, research findings, problem ancestors, are published in ECN. The
twenty or so pages in each issue are crowded with clues and news of the ongoing research
of our members.
· Bits of info on your particular Ellis branch may
have already been published in a back issue of ECN. When you join, you may request a
"back issue search" on your Ellis ancestor, and the editor will suggest which
back issues, if any, may be helpful to you. All back issues from 1980 to 2001 are
available only from Bill & Carol Ellis.
About your Editor
Hi!
My name is Sharon Murphey Worthey. I live in Grand Prairie, Texas, with my
husband Mike who is an aerospace engineer, Navy Reserve officer, and avid history buff.
My daughter Tracie and her son Isaac live with us while she attends Dallas Baptist
University. She expects to receive her BS in Psychology in May 2005. My son
Richard paints cars. He and Joanna have two girls: Christina and Faith (just born in
May!).
We also have a yellow
lab named Bubbles (who loves to chase soap bubbles), plus several cats: Cypress, Johnny
and Squeaky (plus another one that seems to have adopted us, but we haven't named him
yet).
Although Mike has no
Ellis ancestry at least not any Ive discovered yet in true
genealogical fashion, we are cousins - nine generations removed! His branch of Carraways migrated from Virginia,
across the South, and into Texas. My own
Ellis line ends with Virginia Ellis who married Thomas Caraway on 23Dec1841 in
Pattonsburg, Daviess Co, Missouri.
I also write science fiction and
fantasy (the kind with lots of magic and dragons and princesses - not the
"other" kind), and I work for the Cancer Center. With grandchildren,
genealogy and writing, I have little time for other hobbies!
